If you attend any of our Sunday services and you have not already completed and returned a membership form, we encourage you to do so. This will ensure that your name is included on our membership roll.
Membership of the Uniting Church is open to all who are baptised into the universal community of believers in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The Uniting Church baptises those who confess the Christian faith and children for whose instruction and nourishment in the faith we take responsibility.
Membership is seen not as a status but as a commission to take responsible action in the life and mission of our church. We are called to be a fellowship of reconciliation within which the diverse gifts of our members are used for the building up of the whole. We seek to be instruments through which Christ may work and bear witness to himself.
Forms of Membership
The Regulations of the Uniting Church provide for the following forms of membership:
- baptised members – comprising all baptised persons not yet admitted to confirmation;
- confirmed members – comprising persons confirmed in a manner recognised by the Uniting Church;
- members-in-association – comprising persons who are members of another Christian denomination or another Uniting Church and who are granted recognition in accordance with the Regulations.
A roll of each of the above categories of members is required to be kept. In addition, a roll of adherents is required to be kept. An adherent is a person who, whilst not a member or a member-in-association, regularly attends the services of worship and shares in the life of the Church.
Leadership and Voting
Membership of our church is often a pre-requisite for positions of leadership and responsibility within our congregation. Confirmed members and members-in-association on our roll also have the right to vote at congregation meetings on matters which affect the life of our church.
